Not Sesko: Carragher says one Utd star has been a ‘revelation’ under Carrick, his whole game is on ‘another level’

Jamie Carragher has singled out Bruno Fernandes for being a complete ‘revelation’ since Michael Carrick took the reins.

It comes in the aftermath of the Portuguese talisman making Manchester United history by breaking David Beckham’s record of 15 assists in a single campaign, with Fernandes’ five-star display against Aston Villa seeing his tally rise to 16 for 2025/2026 – and there are still eight games left to play.

To nobody’s surprise, Fernandes earned the Man of the Match award for his efforts on Sunday, as well as the highest rating of any player on the pitch (8.8) in Fotmob ’s rankings.

Analysis on last night’s Monday Night Football coverage highlighted just how much the United skipper is in a league of his own when it comes to creating chances.

Carragher said of Fernandes: “He’s been a revelation – not just this season, but since he came to United.

“His numbers are fantastic, but there’s no doubt that since Michael Carrick has used him predominantly in the No.10 position, his game has moved on to another level from where we’ve seen it the last 12 months. Because, as I said, he was playing a little bit deeper under the previous manager.”

Arsenal legend Thierry Henry, who’s already voiced his sheer admiration for Fernandes’ talents this term, chimed in by adding: “Speed without control is useless, but if you can control the speed of your brain, then you are going to be faster than everyone on the field, and Bruno Fernandes has it in abundance, and I have mentioned it before, he doesn’t play football, he thinks it, and he did it so well on the weekend.”

The midfielder’s continued scintillating performances have left fans – and even some honest neutrals – adamant that he simply has to be named the Player of the Season.

No other player is as impactful as Fernandes is to United, and he is more deserving than anyone to have his work ethic recognised.
