Xabi Alonso's representative, Inaki Ibanez, has addressed his client's future plans as the Spaniard weighs up a return to the dugout ahead of next season amidst speculation linking him with Liverpool . Alonso has been without a club since parting ways with Real Madrid by mutual agreement in January, concluding a short seven-month spell in charge.
Since his departure, Alonso has been associated with various positions, including at Liverpool's rivals Manchester United and Tottenham . His name emerged as a possible replacement at Old Trafford after Ruben Amorim's exit, while he was also floated as a contender to succeed Thomas Frank in north London.
Nevertheless, both possibilities seem doubtful given Alonso's deep connections to Liverpool. He has also been tentatively linked with a switch to Ligue 1 club Marseille after Roberto De Zerbi's departure.
At Anfield, this campaign has presented numerous challenges for Arne Slot following his achievement of delivering Premier League success in his maiden season.
Currently, Liverpool have already fallen out of contention for the title and are now battling to guarantee Champions League qualification for the following campaign.
Failure to secure Champions League football would only heighten the scrutiny on the Dutchman, and while it might seem that Alonso is biding his time for the perfect opportunity to rejoin Liverpool, Ibanez's latest remarks indicate there is minimal truth to the speculation surrounding him and the position.
