Scott McTominay's agent has spoken to Napoli sporting director Giovanni Manna over potential terms of a contract extension at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona. McTominay, 29, ended his 22-year association with Manchester United when he completed a £25.7million move to Naples in August 2024.

During his first season at Napoli, McTominay helped the Partenopei to their second Serie A title in three years and also claimed the division's MVP award in the process. The Scotland international scored a stunning 12 goals and provided six assists in Napoli's Scudetto-winning campaign.

He has continued his form into this season, with McTominay finding the net 10 times and adding four assists in Serie A and the Champions League . The ex-United midfielder has missed the last two matches, however, including Sunday's 2-2 draw against Roma, after pulling up in the win at Genoa on Saturday, February 7.

But McTominay's absence hasn't stopped speculation from swirling about his long-term future at Napoli. Indeed, according to Corriere dello Sport , work is underway for McTominay, who is under contract until 2028, to be rewarded with a new and improved deal at Napoli following an impressive first 18 months in Italy.

Antonio Conte's side want to extend that agreement until the summer of 2030. It's added that McTominay's agent has arrived in Naples for talks, and that he has spoken to Manna over the terms of a contract extension.

While there hasn't been no specific mention around McTominay's salary, he would be rewarded with an improved set of personal terms after establishing himself as one of the best players in Serie A since his move to Napoli.

Talk over a new contract for McTominay, meanwhile, comes a matter of days after it was reported that United are 'leading the race' when it comes to a potential transfer for the midfielder. Tuttomercatoweb claimed on Friday that McTominay is giving thought to a move back to the Premier League in 2026, with United at the front of the queue.

It was said that he and his girlfriend Cam Reading are considering moving back home, with a switch to the Premier League thought to be happening 'sooner rather than later'.

Napoli's global business development officer Leonardo Giammarioli spoke about the interest in McTominay last week, telling talkSPORT that the club are trying to fend off admiring glances from afar.

"Yeah, of course I’m worried," he said. "But ultimately, especially Scott, who’s a very nice guy, we’re happy if he gets to the next level in a couple of years – maybe not now, maybe not next year, but he deserves it.

"Look at Stuttgart, they wanted to keep Nick Woltemade, but when such an offer comes in [£65million from Newcastle United], there’s not much you can do, when the player wants to go and money is important. It's difficult for Italian teams; the Italian league continues to lose revenue."

Sky has slashed the price of its Essential TV and Sky Sports bundle ahead of the 2025/26 season, saving members £336 and offering more than 1,400 live matches across the Premier League, EFL and more.
