Toby Collyer: Man United’s transfer plan for player outlined as he closes in on injury return

Manchester United midfielder Toby Collyer is close to making a return from injury.

Collyer has been sidelined since November 26, when he sustained an injury while playing for West Bromwich Albion against Birmingham City.

He joined West Brom on loan during the summer but struggled to nail down a consistent run of games and performances due to fitness issues. United recalled him from his loan tenure earlier this month and the player has been recovering at Carrington.

Now-sacked West Brom boss Ryan Mason repeatedly spoke glowingly of Collyer’s ability but he never truly had the chance to showcase it at the Hawthorns.

According to the Manchester Evening News , Collyer is close to a return from a calf injury.

The newspaper has also laid out United’s transfer plan for the 22-year-old midway through the winter window.

The Manchester Evening News notes that Collyer’s future is “up in the air” for the second half of the season.

It’s understood that there are options on the table and Collyer’s camp have “already received enquiries” from teams in the Championship. Hull Boss  Sergej Jakirovic recently declared publicly that he would like to work with the youngster.

Hull tried to snap up Collyer in the summer but they were beaten to his services by the Baggies. The Tigers may now have a golden opportunity to make amends.

Steven Railston explains that United’s preference is for Collyer, who has been branded “freakish” for his incredible running stats in training, to leave on loan.

But this outcome is not guaranteed, given the fluid situation created by Ruben Amorim’s sacking and Michael Carrick’s interim appointment.

Only after the situation has been carefully assessed will a final decision on Collyer be reached.
