Thomas Tuchel has handed England recalls to Manchester United duo Harry Maguire and Kobbie Mainoo for the last international break before the World Cup .

Maguire has not been seen in an England shirt since November 2024 under Lee Carsley , having previously missed out on the Euro 2024 squad due to injury concerns.

Kobbie Mainoo, meanwhile, who started in the Euros final against Spain, fell desperately down the national team pecking order after struggling for regular minutes under ex-United boss Ruben Amorim.

But the pair have now been brought back into the fold as a reward for their fine recent form under new Red Devils interim head coach Michael Carrick .

There is, however, no place in the squad for United left-back Luke Shaw , who was pushing for a recall, with Newcastle’s Lewis Hall instead receiving his first call-up under Tuchel.

The German has named an expanded 35-man squad, the penultimate squad ahead of this summer’s World Cup in north America.

But despite that, and the injury to Reece James, there is still no call-up for Real Madrid defender Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Elsewhere, there is a first senior call-up for Everton midfielder James Garner, while Dominic Calvert-Lewin could make his first England appearance since 2021 after being included in the squad following an impressive season leading the line at Leeds United.
