Thomas Tuchel set to end England experiment for Japan clash as Harry Kane to return

Thomas Tuchel will bring back his big guns for England ’s final Wembley friendly before the World Cup . England boss Tuchel is expected to make a raft of changes from the experimental line-up which drew with Uruguay to face Japan.

Harry Kane is back with the squad which now consists of 27 players who will train on Monday ahead of Tuesday’s friendly.

Tuchel named 35 players for the back-to-back friendlies but gave some players who have played most minutes for their clubs last week off.

Dean Henderson, Nico O’Reilly, Ezri Konsa, Marc Guéhi, Dan Burn, Elliot Anderson, Morgan Rogers and Anthony Gordon rejoined the group after watching Friday’s friendly at Wembley.

But eight players left with Aaron Ramsdale , Fikayo Tomori and Dominic Calvert-Lewin going back to their clubs which had been pre-arranged.

John Stones , Adam Wharton and Noni Madueke have all gone back because of injury issues suffered last week. Declan Rice and Bukayo Saka have also returned to Arsenal for medical assessment which means England will not be able to field a full-strength XI against Japan.

However, Tuchel viewed the Uruguay game as a big chance for individuals and clearly James Garner and Dom Solanke did enough to stay on.

But the Japan game will be seen as more like a proper warm-up with a more recognisable starting XI as the World Cup team begins to take shape.

Tuchel insisted that the Uruguay experiment went well and added: “I was looking forward to that match, I tell you. I was looking forward to it because we had some good training sessions and the group was a lively group.

“I liked the group a lot. I was excited to coach them. I was very happy when I did it. It seemed like we got a win for it. But it was good. It was nice.

“It was nice to see everyone back and we need to make sure that they are ready now against Japan.”
