Chelsea’s Guro Reiten has signed for Gotham FC in the NWSL – initially on loan, and then permanently as from July when her contract with the Blues expires.

The 31-year-old has agreed a deal that will keep her in the USA until 2029.

“I’m really excited to join Gotham FC and grateful for the opportunity to be part of this club,” said Reiten, according to the club’s website. “Gotham has built something special over the past few years, and there’s clear ambition here. I’m looking forward to working hard, learning and doing everything I can to help the team succeed.”

“Guro is a player of exceptional quality who has consistently performed at the highest levels of the game,” said Yael Averbuch West, the general manager and head of soccer operations for Gotham FC . “Her experience competing for major trophies with Chelsea and her impact with the Norwegian national team will bring valuable leadership and attacking creativity to our squad. We’re excited to welcome her to Gotham.”

The move reunites her with former Chelsea team-mates Ann-Katrin Berger and Jess Carter at the NWSL champions.

Guro Reiten, who has over 100 international caps for Norway, signed for Chelsea in 2019. She picked up multiple trophies in her time there, including six Women’s Super League titles, four Women’s FA Cups and three Women’s League Cups.

However, Reiten has been used primarily as a substitute in recent weeks, getting just over ten minutes against Tottenham Hotspur last month. Her last start came against Arsenal in January, when she was substituted early in the second half.

The news comes ahead of Chelsea’s Subway Women’s League Cup final on Sunday against Manchester United.
