Southampton vs Manchester United Legends LIVE!

A team of Manchester United legends heads to St Mary’s this afternoon to take on their Southampton counterparts. Saturday’s friendly fixture on the south coast is a special anniversary match to mark 50 years since the famous 1976 FA Cup final, when the Saints stunned heavy favourites United 1-0 at the old Wembley Stadium thanks to a contentious second-half goal from the late Bobby Stokes.

It remains the only major trophy ever won by Southampton and their most famous day. Dimitar Berbatov, Louis Saha, Antonio Valencia, Ronny Johnsen and Wes Brown are just some of the former United favourites in action today, while Southampton’s squad list includes the likes of Matt Le Tissier, Francis Benali and Rickie Lambert.

We could be in for an enthralling game with so many former stars eager to roll back the years, with United’s legends having been involved in some thrillers in recent years - most notably against Celtic, to whom they lost on penalties in back-to-back years after entertaining contests at both Old Trafford and Celtic Park with Wayne Rooney among those to have donned the red shirt once more.
