Real Madrid top target has no renewal agreement with current club – Romano
While Real Madrid have been long-linked with a star midfield signing for the summer, their best-placed target has continually changed over the months.
While matters began with Vitinha and Kees Smit, Rodri soon took over as their top target in the department.
The Manchester City star continues to be linked with a move, but recent hours have seen another name overtake the Ballon d’Or winner.
Indeed, the player rumoured to be closest to Real Madrid now is Chelsea’s Enzo Fernandez, especially given how he is itching to leave the London-based club and even spoke about living in Madrid recently .
The 25-year-old World Cup winner is currently contractually bound to Chelsea until 2032, and Real Madrid are hoping to get into negotiations in the summer to sign him immediately.
As relayed by Fabrizio Romano , Fernandez and Chelsea are currently not discussing a potential contract renewal and do not have any form of agreement in place. In fact, talks have not even begun between the two parties.

The Italian journalist further adds that one must consider Fernandez’s words on Madrid before diving into the topic of his renewal, given how that is a clear sign that he wants to leave and will not renew.
While it may be true that the player is not in talks with Chelsea over a renewal, his current deal with them remains a long-term one.
His existing contract runs until June 2032, meaning that over five years remain.
Negotiations, on that front, will not be simple, and his contractual status will play no part in deciding his future.
At this point, Chelsea’s need to sell players and Fernandez’s desire to leave will be the driving forces.
