Real Madrid megastar faces huge challenge vs Bayern Munich after dry spell

Real Madrid head into a defining UEFA Champions League night against Bayern Munich with a familiar superstar under the spotlight, namely, Kylian Mbappe.

On paper, the French forward’s numbers remain impressive.

With 38 goals across all competitions this season, his output suggests a player delivering at the highest level. Yet, beneath those figures lies a more complicated reality.

To put it in perspective, Mbappe has not found the back of the net since early February, when he scored in a 2-0 victory over Valencia.

Since then, his influence in front of goal has noticeably dipped and for a player of his calibre, that drought is beginning to raise questions.

What makes the situation even more intriguing is how Real Madrid have performed in his absence.

During Mbappe’s spell on the sidelines with a knee sprain, Real Madrid arguably produced their most collective football of the season.

A run of five consecutive wins, including a crucial result against Manchester City.

With Mbappe unavailable, Alvaro Arbeloa shifted towards a midfield-heavy setup, introducing Thiago Pitarch and allowing Federico Valverde to operate at his peak.

Meanwhile, Brahim Diaz stepped up in attack alongside Vinicius Jr., offering energy, movement, and defensive contribution.

The result was a team that looked more connected – both with and without the ball.

However, Mbappe’s return to the starting XI brought a shift in dynamics.

Shortly after his comeback, Real Madrid suffered a setback against Mallorca, reigniting debate about the team’s overall balance.

To be clear, Mbappe’s place in the lineup is not under threat. His talent and status make him undroppable in big games.

But the current challenge lies in finding a way to integrate him without losing the collective structure that had started to emerge.

Against Bayern Munich, that balance will be tested once again.

Real Madrid are expected to field an attacking duo of Vinicius Jr. and Mbappe , a partnership capable of dismantling any defence, especially against a Bayern side known to leave spaces at the back.

Yet, this tie will demand more than individual brilliance.
