Pep Guardiola’s former Bayern Munich colleague has suggested that he could leave Manchester City this summer amid growing doubt over his future. Guardiola ’s future at the Etihad is already in major doubt, with it being suggested he could leave in just a few months’ time.

That is despite the Spanish coach still having a contract with City until the summer of 2027. Former Bayern Munich sporting director, Matthias Sammer, who worked with Guardiola in Germany, has now offered his take and believes all is not well.

“Well, first of all, I was very happy for him. We worked together wonderfully for three years; it was very, very good,” Sammer said on Sky Germany's Sammer and Basile - the Hagedorn Talk.

"I think I understood him quite well with his facial expressions, his gestures, his eyes, and his way of speaking. My gut feeling tells me something's wrong when I look at his face."

And he has now urged Guardiola to consider taking a break away from the dugout to rediscover his passion for the game. Guardiola has already offered his take on his future and confirmed that he would be taking a break once he eventually does leave the Etihad. Speaking earlier this season, he said: "I know that after this stage with City I'm going to stop, that's for sure, it's decided, more than decided.

“I don't know how long I'll stop for, a year, two years, three years, five, 10, 15, I don't know. But I'm going to stop after this stage with City, because I need to stop and focus on myself, on my body, on...

“In Catalan, they say badar. Badar, badar, badar... I want to do this, simply stop and watch the cows go by when the train goes by. My grandfather used to say, you look at me like cows watch the train go by. Well, that's it, you have to stop and watch it go by."

Should this indeed end up being Guardiola’s final season with City, he would be going out with silverware. They beat Premier League title rivals Arsenal in the Carabao Cup final at the weekend , while City are still in the FA Cup and are due to take on Liverpool .

Guardiola’s side still have hope of beating Arsenal to the Premier League title but are nine points off the pace with eight matches still to play.
