Patrick Dorgu: Denmark boss Brian Riemer delivers upbeat injury outlook on Man United star

Denmark head coach Brian Riemer has issued a positive assessment of Patrick Dorgu’s fitness as the Manchester United star steps up his recovery.

Dorgu has been sidelined since the tail end of January, when he sustained an injury in the 3-2 victory over Arsenal at the Emirates.

The player’s form improved significantly following the sacking of Ruben Amorim. Darren Fletcher, who took charge for two games, trialled him in an unfamiliar left-wing role, where he was brilliant. Upon assuming control, Michael Carrick kept him in that position.

Dorgu scored the second goal of United’s 2-0 victory over Manchester City, while he also found the back of the net against Arsenal, firing a screamer that David Raya simply had no chance of keeping out.

A report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that Dorgu would be sidelined for 10 weeks. More recently, it emerged that his recovery is proceeding as planned, with the player now stepping up his preparations for a return to action.

Earlier in the week, concerns emerged that Dorgu may have suffered a setback, or that United were simply exercising extra caution. Either scenario pointed towards an extended spell on the sidelines, ruling him out of the March international break with Denmark.

It’s a crucial one for Denmark , who face North Macedonia on March 26 in the semi-final of the World Cup qualification play-offs. If they win, they will come up against either Czechia or the Republic of Ireland in the final five days later.

Speaking to reporters, Riemer didn’t rule out Dorgu for the fixtures.

Riemer told Tipsbladet [as quoted by SportWitness ], “Right now, he is reported injured by Manchester United , and he is until April.”

“I know that Patrick has a dream of being ready. I think his biggest motivation right now, when he is running around in that training room, is that he wants to battle everyone and then be ready for that match.”

The national team boss added, “I’ll only help him keep that dream alive as long as the opportunity exists.”

Meanwhile, United are next in action on Sunday when they host Crystal Palace at Old Trafford.
