Owen Hargreaves believes Benjamin Sesko is still best suited to a role off the Manchester United bench despite rescuing a point for his side against West Ham United.

The former RB Leipzig star made it five goals in last six appearances with a wonderful finish deep in injury time at the London Stadium on Tuesday night.

He has started just two games in that run and is still be feature in the starting XI under Carrick who has preferred Bryan Mbeumo through the middle to lead his attack.

Sesko scored a sensational late winner against Fulham at the start of the month but found himself among the subs again against Tottenham and West Ham.

His impact off the bench in east London will heighten calls for him to start when United are back in action away to Everton on 23 February.

But former United star Hargreaves believes watching on from the sidelines may suit the young star at this stage.

‘It was a brilliant finish from him and I think he is proving to be a little bit more effective coming off the bench,’ Hargreaves told Premier League Productions.

‘The balance of the starting XI looks really good. For a young player, when you can watch a game from the side then come on and have an impact and I think it’s working for him.

‘I think there is less pressure on him when he comes from the bench. It was a fabulous finish and he will be delighted.’

Sesko has now scored seven goals in 23 appearances since his £74million arrival in the summer.
