‘Next season, no doubt about that…’: Carragher issues definitive Man Utd claim over priority INEOS decision
Jamie Carragher believes Michael Carrick is now destined to be made Manchester United’s permanent manager following last night’s win over Brentford.
The 2-1 triumph in M16 meant the Red Devils now need only two points from their remaining four fixtures to qualify for the Champions League.

It marked Carrick’s ninth win in the dugout for United this season ; he has now won more than Ruben Amorim recorded in 2025/2026, despite managing seven fewer games than his predecessor.

He has also drawn twice and lost twice in the last three months, which saw the interim boss lose some backing from the United faithful.
Overall, however, it seems safe to say that the overwhelming majority of supporters are in favour of Carrick staying long-term .
Not only would he have earned it with how he revitalised the squad and the general feeling around Old Trafford, but the fact that he’s a former Red who dedicated 12 years of his senior career to United, made 464 appearances for the club and won a host of major accolades in a red shirt, makes him a favoured candidate to try and restore the side to its former glories.

Carragher is also of the belief that the 44-year-old is deserving of the job, too.
When analysing United’s victory over the Bees on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football coverage, he told the panel: “He’s going to be the Manchester United manager next season. No doubt about that, and you can’t say he doesn’t deserve it.
“They are absolutely sensational results [under Carrick]. They’re [the] results of a title-winner – someone going for the league. Now, I know that pressure isn’t on United right now, they haven’t got European fixtures, but I don’t think anybody could’ve come in and done any better results-wise.
“The performances as of late haven’t been great — that was another one tonight — but it’s not a great United team. I’m looking at United and Liverpool right now in third and fourth, and I don’t think either of them are great. He (Carrick) is still getting the results.”
