Betting has been suspended on who will become the fourth Nottingham Forest manager this season as it seems all but confirmed that Vitor Pereira will take over at the City Ground. Forest have parted ways with Sean Dyche , in a move that was ruthlessly confirmed in the early hours of Thursday morning.

The decision comes after the club's 0-0 draw with Wolves on Wednesday evening and with Forest languishing 17th in the Premier League table, three points above West Ham. A brief statement posted by the club on social media at 12.31am read: "Nottingham Forest Football Club can confirm that Sean Dyche has been relieved of his duties as head coach.

"We would like to thank Sean and his staff for their efforts during their time at the Club and we wish them the best of luck for the future. We will be making no further comment at this time."

Forest failed to find a breakthrough against basement dwellers Wolves and have been dragged into a relegation scrap this season.

Spokesperson for William Hill , Lee Phelps, said: “Many were shocked to see Sean Dyche sacked by Nottingham Forest overnight, but there have been no surprises in the betting today – with all trends pointing towards Vitor Pereira being on his way to the City Ground.

“Having opened at 4/6, the Portuguese former Wolves coach went as short as 1/7 this afternoon before we halted the market. “Thomas Frank was 6/1 to make an immediate return to a Premier League dugout after losing his job at Tottenham, with Steve Cooper also in the running at 7/1, but both candidates appear to have lost out to Pereira.”

Dyche was questioned about his future after the match and seemed to hint his dismissal could be on the cards.

"The owner has been fair to me, without a shadow of a doubt," he said. "If anyone chooses to change in football now, that's their decision. We've all seen it."

The sacking comes less than 24 hours after Tottenham dismissed Thomas Frank. Spurs themselves are only two points above Forest.

Asked about Frank before the Wolves match, he said: "Unfortunately, it is the way it is.

"The demands are high. Social media is playing its part now. There seems a lot of anger and resentment - we have got to live to roll with it. That's what us managers have got to do."

A draw against Wolves and jeers from the home supporters at the City Ground appeared to be sufficient for Marinakis to reach his verdict.

"People can demand change, and then it's always whether they change or not," Dyche said before his sacking. "If the owner wants to make a change then that's up to him, and that's the way football is now, that's just the reality of it. I understand the noise here has changed significantly since the last few games."

Dyche took charge at Forest on October 21 with the club sitting in 18th position, taking over from Ange Postecoglou who lasted a mere 39 days at the helm. The Australian, naturally, followed Nuno Espirito Santo who had fallen out with Marinakis earlier in the campaign.

The Greek owner will now search for his fourth manager of the season. However, he will have precious little time to respond with Forest returning to action for their first leg Europa League playoff match against Fenerbahce on Thursday.
