Newcastle 2-1 Manchester United: Player Ratings
Manchester United suffered a 1-0 loss to Newcastle at St James’ Park. Here are our player ratings from the game.
(A score of 6 is around average)
Senne Lammens 5 – OK. Intervened when required and almost got a foot to Anthony Gordon’s penalty. Well and truly beaten for Newcastle’s winning strike.
Noussair Mazraoui 6 – Solid. Defended astutely and composed on the ball.
Leny Yoro 6 – Comfortable performance at the heart of United’s defence. Presented with a golden chance to give United the lead in the second half but was denied by Aaron Ramsdale .
Harry Maguire 6 – Same as Yoro. Did his job.
Luke Shaw 5 – Enjoyed a good battle with former United teammate Anthony Elanga.
Casemiro 7 – Brilliant header to draw United level just before the break. However, he struggled in midfielder against Joelinton and was caught sleeping on the ball a few times.
Kobbie Mainoo 5 – Found it slightly difficult against Newcastle’s physical midfielders. Lost Gordon during a corner-kick routine, almost costing United a goal. Good shot to force Ramsdale into a cross.
Bruno Fernandes 6.5 – Top-class delivery for Casemiro for United’s equaliser just moments after he conceded the penalty from which Newcastle broke the deadlock. Created chance after chance for his teammates in the second half as the Red Devils pushed for a winning strike. Influential.
Bryan Mbeumo 3 – Struggled to have an impact on the game. A pain to watch at times.
Matheus Cunha 6.5 – United’s most lively attacker. Constantly drove forward with purpose and gave Kieran Trippier a torrid time.
Benjamin Sesko 3 – Barely noticeable. Had nothing to pounce on all game.
Diogo Dalot 5 – Picked up where Shaw left off.
Manuel Ugarte 5 – He looked to inject himself into attacking moves, though little came off for him.
Amad 5.5 – Direct, but it didn’t count for too much as United were handed their first defeat under Michael Carrick.
Joshua Zirkzee 6 – Made a bright impact off the bench. Looked positive and unleashed a powerful effort that seemed destined for the net, only for Ramsdale to deny him.
Tyrell Malacia 4 – Uneventful cameo. Well and truly beaten by Osula for Newcastle’s second of the game.
