Neuer diagnosis here: The Bayern captain has been hit so hard

Manuel Neuer is facing another enforced break at FC Bayern . After his comeback against Borussia Mönchengladbach, the captain had to leave the pitch with another injury. Now there is certainty about the goalkeeper’s injury.

FC Bayern have announced the diagnosis for Manuel Neuer . The goalkeeper suffered a small muscle fibre tear in his left calf in the 4-1 defeat to Borussia Mönchengladbach. The record champions made the official announcement following an examination by the medical department .

The 39-year-old had only made his comeback against Gladbach. Neuer was back between the posts for the first time in around three weeks, but his return only lasted one half. The captain stayed in the dressing room after 45 minutes, with Jonas Urbig taking his place in the Bayern goal in the second half.

Coach Vincent Kompany had already hinted at the problems immediately after the game: „He felt something in his calf,“ explained the Bayern coach on the Sky microphone .

The club made it clear in its announcement that the captain will be out for the time being. „This means that the team captain and goalkeeper will be out for the time being,“ FC Bayern said.

However, the Munich club did not give a specific time of absence and refrained from giving a precise forecast for the keeper’s return.

However, a small muscle fibre tear in the calf often means a break of several weeks in professional soccer. How long Neuer will actually miss depends on how the injury heals.

The renewed absence is likely to bring Jonas Urbig back into focus. The 22-year-old already replaced Neuer against Mönchengladbach after the half-time break and is now likely to be in goal again on Tuesday in the important Champions League round of 16 at Atalanta Bergamo.
