Manchester United are reportedly set to give JJ Gabriel a shot at the first team ahead of the new season, as he continues to shine for the club's Under-18s side. The 15-year-old netted his 21st goal in 23 appearances across all competitions this weekend.

He found the back of the net in Saturday's 3-0 U-18 Premier League victory over Blackburn, helping to narrow the gap on rivals Manchester City in the race for the league title. Gabriel broke the deadlock early in the second half, setting his side on the path to three points.

Joining him on the scoresheet was Kai Rooney, son of United icon Wayne, who came off the bench to make his mark. Jim Thwaites rounded off the scoring with a spectacular free-kick.

Gabriel's prolific form has sparked considerable excitement among United supporters about the young talent. It appears he'll be given an opportunity to demonstrate his abilities during pre-season.

According to The Sun , the teenager is among the club's youngsters who could be fast-tracked and included in the squad for United's pre-season tour around Europe.

The team are set to play five friendlies across Europe.

He'll get the opportunity thanks to this summer's World Cup. The competition is set to conclude a week later than normal, which means players progressing past the group stages could be granted additional time off and therefore miss portions of pre-season.

The new manager could therefore look to the club's youth players to fill the gaps. Those youngsters will be eager to impress ahead of the new campaign.

Who that boss might be remains uncertain, with Michael Carrick currently in interim charge until the conclusion of this season.

United have experienced a positive turnaround in form under the ex-midfielder, prompting some suggestions that he should to be handed the role on a more permanent footing.

Nevertheless, United continue to be associated with other managers as potential replacements. Oliver Glasner , Gareth Southgate and Roberto De Zerbi are amongst those to be linked with the position.
