Former Premier League footballer Jimmy Bullard squandered his opportunity to go up against Sir Andy Murray following a controversial beer bottle episode . The incident resulted in the popular figure being barred from returning to the venue for a pro-am tournament.

Bullard, 47, called time on his career at MK Dons in 2012 and has subsequently developed a strong passion for golf . He regularly appears on the 'Golf Life' YouTube channel, hosted by ex-Soccer AM colleague Peter 'Tubes' Dales, and often shares his own exploits on the course.

Nevertheless, the former Fulham , Wigan and Hull City midfielder faced consequences after causing offence to members at the prestigious Sunningdale Golf Club. This occurred when he chose to use an empty beer bottle as an improvised tee at the opening hole.

He has subsequently admitted: "I'm not allowed to go again. I had a few drinks and I got carried away. I put a Peroni off the first tee and clipped a ball off it. It's obviously not the thing to do, so I apologise."

Bullard disclosed this during a guest spot on snooker icon Stephen Hendry's 'Cue Tips' YouTube channel. He also seized the moment to lobby for his club membership to be restored.

"If there are any Sunningdale members watching, I do apologise," he said alongside Hendry, whose own membership at the club remains intact. "I really want to come back."

Two-time Wimbledon champion Murray is a golf enthusiast himself and has become a regular presence on the pro-am circuit . This includes the prestigious Sunningdale foursomes competition, which will once more feature an array of star talent in 2026.

This year's pro-am tournament is scheduled to begin on Tuesday, where morning and afternoon play will be divided across the Old and New courses. Play will proceed through to Friday when the semi-finals and final are set to take place.

Premier League legend Gareth Bale will be competing against Murray for the opportunity to be crowned champion of the amateur ranks. Murray is due to partner two-time European Tour winner Eddie Pepperell, whilst Bale will team up with Matthew Wylie.

Bullard, however, will take no part in the competition, which has been staged since 1934. Considering that and the sophisticated nature of the club, it's hardly surprising the retired pro's beer bottle antics earned him a suspension.
