Matheus Cunha has been begging Casemiro to stay at Manchester United for at least one more season.
The Brazil international has enjoyed a superb 2025-26 campaign in the heart of United’s midfield but announced in January this season would be his last in Manchester.
The £70million signing from Real Madrid in the summer of 2022 will leave the club when his contract expires this summer with finding a replacement for the 34-year-old a top priority.
Casemiro scored his seventh goal of the season in Sunday’s 3-1 victory over Aston Villa with fans at Old Trafford chanting ‘one more year’ after he opened the scoring with another header.
While there is unlikely to be any U-turn from United on the midfielder’s future, the United squad are keen him to stay on.
Cunha joined his countryman in Manchester last summer after his transfer from Wolves . The forward has been beginning Casemiro to extend his stay in Manchester beyond this summer and still believes there is time for a change of heart.
‘I’m always asking him, “come on, stay at Manchester United!” Just one year with me, let’s go for a second year,’ he told TNT Sports Brasil.

‘We’re very close, he’s always helping and it’s incredibly rewarding to play with him here and with the national team.
‘l always learn from him and understand more and more how he won so many titles. He’s reached a stage where he can decide where to play, and I hope it is with us.’

United do retain an option to extend Casemiro’s contract by a further 12 months.
With Cunha in his countryman’s ear, Leny Yoro has also revealed the entire dressing room wants the former Real Madrid star to stay.
‘Everyone wanted him to stay, he’s a player [who is] really important for us,’ Yoro said.
