Marcus Rashford has a release clause in his contract that enables him to leave Manchester United for £40million this summer — for any club except Liverpool or Manchester City .

The 28-year-old is currently away at the World Cup with England, but his long-term future beyond the tournament is unclear with Barcelona deciding against triggering an option to sign Rashford permanently after acquiring him on an initial loan deal last summer.

Barca's agreement with Manchester United would have enabled them to sign Rashford for a bargain £26m. Instead, the Spanish champions have signed his England team-mate, Anthony Gordon, in a deal worth £70m .

With that deal now off the table, Rashford is effectively back on the market , albeit any suitors will have to pay a higher price for his services than Barcelona.

The Athletic have revealed that Rashford's contract, which still has two more years to run, contains a release clause of £40m which is open to all clubs with the exception of Manchester United's two biggest domestic rivals.

A number of Premier League clubs are said to have already 'expressed an interest' in Rashford, who amassed 28 goal contributions for Barcelona last season.

However, the report adds that if Rashford were to play in the Premier League next season, he would do so with his boyhood club rather than another English team.

If Rashford were to leave Old Trafford permanently this summer, then Crysencio Summerville is a player Manchester United may pursue to add to their attacking options .

The West Ham winger is attracting interest following the club's relegation from the Premier League and has already caught the eye at the World Cup, scoring a fine goal for the Netherlands in their 2-2 draw with Japan .

Though West Ham are vulnerable to losing their top-tier players following relegation, Summerville could still command a transfer fee of around £50m which could prove to be a sticking point. Manchester United's priority in the transfer window remains a revamp of their midfield options with Summerville's team-mate, Mateus Fernandes, a top target.
