Manchester City beat rivals Man United, Liverpool and Brighton in race to sign Hearts' teenage midfielder

Manchester City have agreed a £600,000 compensation deal with Hearts for teenage midfielder Keir McMeekin.

The deal could rise to £2million for the 16-year-old who has still to make his full debut for the Scottish Premiership title contenders.

He has agreed a pre-contract and will undergo a medical closer to the summer.

McMeekin was wanted by a string of top English clubs as he weighed up whether to sign his first professional contract at Tynecastle.

Manchester United , Brighton and Liverpool all battled for the player's signature before he settled on City after they gave him and his family a tour of their training facilities.

Although a regular in B team manager Andy Kirk's squads, McMeekin has still to play for the first team though he has trained with them and featured in a couple of behind closed doors matches at the start of this season.

Though capped by Scotland at youth level, McMeekin is also on the radar of England and Northern Ireland as he continues to impress and qualifies for other countries owing to his grandparents.
