Benajmin Sesko is hoping to have a leading role when Manchester United take on Tottenham at Old Trafford this afternoon.

United have picked up three wins from three under Michael Carrick but needed a dramatic late winner from their summer signing to beat Fulham last Sunday.

The £74million summer signing from RB Leipzig started on the bench against Manchester City , Arsenal and against the Cottagers with Carrick opting to play Bryan Mbeumo through the middle on each of those occasions – to great success in the derby and at the Emirates.

But Sesko’s sensational finish in front of the Stretford End has given Carrick something to think about.

Starting the 22-year-old will require one of Amad Diallo, Matheus Cunha or Mbeumo to drop to the bench and having played every minute since returning from AFCON duty, Amad could be the one to make way.

Cunha started on the left of attack in the absence of Patrick Dorgu against Fulham with the Denmark international ruled out until the end of March.

United also remain without Mason Mount and Matthijs de Ligt.

The Netherlands international has not played since the end of November due to a back injury with Carrick explaining ahead of the Fulham game his centre-half was still ‘a few weeks away’.

Mason Mount also missed the Fulham win after picking up a knock in training. While the midfielder’s injury record would have many fearing the worst, Carrick insisted last week it was ‘nothing serious’.

Tottenham have bee boosted by the news that both Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero are fit and available for selection today.

Dominic Solanke scored twice in the comeback draw against Manchester City on Sunday but left the pitch with a slight limp with Cristian Romero forced off at half-time.

The striker has shaken off that knock however and is also available.

Injuries permitting, Carrick could name the same back four he has used in all three games so far although Leny Yoro and Ayden Heaven will be desperate to break into the side.

Kobbie Mainoo and Casemiro is looking a nailed-on partnership in midfield until the end of the season with big decisions to be make up front.

United do lack natural width on the left when Cunha plays there – there is the option to move Amad over to that flank but the Ivorian is undoubtedly better cutting inside from the right than hugging the touchline.

Manchester United vs Tottenham kicks off on Saturday 7 February at 12:30pm.
