Michael Carrick has landed at Old Trafford as interim head coach for the remainder of the season, but it remains to be seen whether the club will afford him funds in the January window . The 44-year-old has stepped up to the plate as a short-term successor to Ruben Amorim .
And while his main task will be guiding the Red Devils to the best possible Premier League finish come May, Carrick could also be tasked with incomings and outgoings this month. While Amorim had noted how there were no plans to make changes to his squad before his dismissal, Carrick's view could contrast.
Given his ties with the club, there's no doubt that he will know exactly what Manchester United are lacking at present, and he could turn to the board for incoming talent as a result. With all things considered, Mirror Football takes a look at some of the players who have been linked with arrivals and exits at Old Trafford...
United have been linked with LDU Quito's Ederson Castillo, as they look to plan for the future of an ageing engine room. Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro have been the club's first-choice pairing in the centre of the park this season, seeing success in part.
However, with Fernandes arguably more suited to an attacking role, and Casemiro's future with the club beyond 2025/26 unknown, the Red Devils could look to bring in suitable additions. Castillo is one name who has cropped up as of recent, with the 17-year-old wonderkid - who has been dubbed the 'new Moises Caicedo' - linked with a £4million move to the north west.
United aren't the only European powerhouse monitoring the Ecuadorian's situation at present, however. Reports suggest that Barcelona have offered Castillo a trial with the club at youth level, with the club potentially snapping him up permanently should he impress.

As a result, United may need to work quickly to secure an agreement for the midfielder.
It is understood that Kobbie Mainoo is currently aggrieved at a lack of playing time with Manchester United, as Napoli lead the race to secure the 20-year-old on loan. The midfielder started just one match for his current club under Amorim this season, in the form of an embarrassing Carabao Cup exit to Grimsby Town via penalties.

While Darren Fletcher gave Mainoo a chance to flourish during United's FA Cup defeat to Brighton at the weekend, it remains to be seen what Carrick's plans for the youngster are. However, the interim head coach would be wise to link up with Mainoo in the near future, as the January window heats up.
It is understood that Mainoo will look for options elsewhere if his gametime continues to be hampered at Old Trafford. And with just a matter of weeks separating the present and a February 2 deadline, Carrick may have to prioritise the star's progression, either with or without United.
BILD recently claimed that Manchester United have been in informal contact with Karim Adeyemi, as the forward's future with Borussia Dortmund is cast into speculation. However, new reports from Teamtalk suggest that the 23-year-old is not a top priority and is viewed as more of a short-term option.

Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur have also been linked with the German as of recent, in what could end up becoming a heated bidding war for one of the Bundesliga's most highly-rated stars.
Sky has slashed the price of its Essential TV and Sky Sports bundle ahead of the 2025/26 season, saving members £192 and offering more than 1,400 live matches across the Premier League, EFL and more.
