Elsewhere, United star Casemiro has reportedly presented his club with the player who can replace him when he leaves at the end of the season.

Outgoing United midfielder Casemiro has reportedly told United to target Newcastle star Bruno Guimaraes as his replacement. United confirmed in January that the midfielder will depart when his contract runs out on June 30.

Magpies star Sandro Tonali, Nottingham Forest's Elliot Anderson, Palace's Adam Wharton and Wolves star Joao Gomes are all said to be on United's shortlist for a new midfielder.

However, reports claim that Casemiro himself has recommended his compatriot, as per Spanish outlet AS . Any attempt to bring Newcastle's talisman to United will not be easy.

The Magpies are said to be negotiating a new contract with Guimaraes. The same reportedly goes for Tonali, with his future in the North East also uncertain.

AS claims that United have already had 'informal contact' with both players. However, no terms of a transfer have been agreed.

Should United act on Casemiro's recommendation, any transfer could well exceed the £125 million Newcastle received from Liverpool for Alexander Isak last summer.

Casemiro's agreement contains a clause to extend by a further year, but the club have opted not to retain him for a fifth year. With fewer than six months left on his existing contract, the Brazil international can negotiate a pre-contract arrangement with clubs outside of England.

Former Man City goalkeeper Joe Hart has claimed that United striker Sesko has similarities to United and Real Madrid icon Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Slovenian striker endured a slow start to the season following his big-money arrival from RB Leipzig. Sesko scored just two Premier League goals in the first half of the campaign but has turned his form around under Carrick .

He has scored six in his last seven league outings. Goals have come against Everton, West Ham and Fulham, as well as against Brighton in the FA Cup , showing United fans his potential.

Speaking on Match of the Day, Hart said: "Young striker, and he's got such brilliance, you know, a little bit of Cristiano Ronaldo about him. And [Bruno] Fernandes knows how to get the best out of him. He knows how to get into the goal-scoring positions."

Gary Neville has also claimed that Sesko has ‘improved enormously’ after he extended his goalscoring form. Speaking on Sky Sports , the United legend said: "Sesko, the confidence, the goals. The finishes by the way that he’s put in, the West Ham [one], the Everton [one]. The goals, they’re four brilliant goals by the way.

"They’re all different. They’re all very different goals. One across the near post, one a header, one is a counter-attack with a side finish at the end. And then the Fulham one is the one on the turn.

"What he [Carrick] seems to have done in the four or five weeks whilst having him [Sesko] as a sub is bring him on and then he [Sesko] had an angry celebration against Everton.

"That was a celebration of a guy who was saying, ‘You better play me by the way, now’ and he has done. So I think now he's working Sesko into form. That’s a game changer for United."
