Borussia Dortmund have placed a huge price tag on Felix Nmecha after Gary Neville urged Manchester United to make a move for the Germany international.

The former Manchester City youngster has enjoyed a sparkling start to the World Cup , starring in Germany’s wins over Curacao and Ivory Coast.

The 25-year-old joined Dortmund three years ago after a spell at Wolfsburg and has four years left on his contract at Signal Iduna Park. That contract does include a €80million (£69.3m) release clause but that will not be active until next year.

Bayern Munich and Liverpool have been linked with a move for Nmecha with United seeking to rebuild their midfield this summer.

But any club looking to prise him away from Dortmund will have to dig deep with Kicker reporting Dortmund have placed a €100million (£86m) price tag on him.

United have agreed a deal to sign Atalanta’s Ederson but are understood to want to sign at least two new midfielders – three should Manuel Ugarte also leave the club.

They have already been frustrated in their pursuit of Elliot Anderson with the Nottingham Forest star preferring a move to Manchester City.

Mateus Fernandes is also regarded as a top target with United thought to be favourites to land the West Ham United star. However, Tottenham have entered the race and are now considered the front runners, prepared to make the former Southampton star a huge offer that could blow United’s out of the water.

West Ham are also demanding at least £80m for their midfielder, a fee United are reluctant to meet.

Former United captain Neville suggested Nmecha could be a viable alternative to Fernandes if they do miss out.

‘The more he plays like he did the other night the more expensive he’ll get,’ Neville told ITV during Germany’s win over Ivory Coast.
