Manchester United are on the verge of securing a deal to sign RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko , according to reports.

Newcastle submitted their opening bid for Sesko over the weekend but their offer of €75m (£65.5m), plus an additional €5m (£4.3m) in bonuses, was turned down by RB Leipzig .

Eddie Howe ’s side followed that up with an improved offer of €80m (£69.5m), plus €5m (£4.3m) in add-ons for the 22-year-old .

United entered the race this week by submitting their own bid for Sesko worth €85m (£73.8m) .

According to The Athletic , Newcastle’s revised offer has been accepted by RB Leipzig but Sesko has made it clear that he wants to join United.

The report claims that ‘all parties are aware’ of Sesko’s decision and United are now working towards reaching an agreement over a fee with RB Leipzig.

Sesko was left out of RB Leipzig’s penultimate pre-season friendly of the summer against Atalanta on Saturday and did not train with the team on Tuesday.

‘Due to very concrete interest from several clubs, we decided he wouldn’t play today,’ RB Leipzig’s sporting director, Marcel Schafer, said on Saturday.

‘When I say there’s been strong interest and clubs have approached us directly, it’s obvious what that means.

‘I want to make it clear that this doesn’t mean he’s already on his way to another club. And it also doesn’t mean that Benji won’t play next week.’
