Scott McTominay is reportedly set to sign a new contract with Napoli, dealing financial a blow to Manchester United . McTominay left United in the summer of 2024 to join the Serie A heavyweights on a permanent transfer worth approximately £25million.

Following his Old Trafford exit, McTominay has been instrumental in Napoli's Serie A title victory last season and has netted 23 goals in 70 appearances for the Italian side. This form sparked regular speculation about McTominay's future at Napoli, hinting that a Premier League return might be on the cards.

There were even rumours that United could be interested in bringing the Scotland international back, although such speculation has quietened down recently. Amidst this speculation, Italian news outlet Gazzetta dello Sport has offered an update on McTominay's future.

It's been reported that McTominay is eager to pen a new deal at Napoli, with his current contract set to expire in the summer of 2028. The outlet states that McTominay's representatives are flying in to discuss the possibility of extending the midfielder's contract in Naples.

Should McTominay sign a new contract with Napoli, it would mean United would have to wait for a potential financial windfall. As part of the arrangement that saw United sell the 29-year-old, the Reds ensured they included a 10 per cent sell-on clause in the deal.

Consequently, a fresh agreement with Napoli would mean United having to wait to collect any potential proceeds from a sale of the midfielder. McTominay has been linked with a departure from Napoli over the past 12 months. Last month, McTominay addressed speculation about his future and claims that he might leave the Serie A club in the months ahead.

"My agent has not communicated with anyone regarding my future," McTominay told Corriere dello Sport in February.

"He only speaks with me and with the club. He hasn't said anything to the newspapers. I am extremely happy here and, as far as I am concerned, I am a Napoli player; it is all I think about.

"The future is very important, and I could see myself in Napoli for a long time."
