Manchester United edged three points ahead of both Liverpool and Chelsea with a win on the road at Everton . Benjamin Sesko emerged as the hero from the bench once more, netting the crucial goal on 71 minutes with a composed finish beyond Jordan Pickford .

Maximum points for United at Hill Dickinson Stadium became important following their top-five rivals' weekend results. On Saturday afternoon, Chelsea and Aston Villa both dropped points at home to Burnley and Leeds United , respectively.

24 hours on from that, Liverpool scored a last-gasp winner against Nottingham Forest to go level on points with United before their game week 27 clash. However, a fifth win out of six for Michael Carrick's side saw that gap return.

Only six points now separate the four teams battling to join Arsenal and Man City in the top five, with upcoming fixtures likely to have a major influence. One advantage for United is that all three of the teams they are competing with have European knockouts resuming soon.

With all this in mind, Mirror Football takes a look at the upcoming fixtures for United, Villa, Liverpool and Chelsea in the race for Champions League spots.
