Lisandro Martinez reveals classy gesture from Alexis Mac Allister and Emi Martinez
Manchester United defender Lisandro Martinez has opened up on the touching support he received from Liverpool’s Alexis Mac Allister and Aston Villa goalkeeper Emi Martinez during a recent tough period in his career.
Martinez has struggled with injuries during the course of his United career, which have prevented him from truly nailing down a consistent run of games and performances.
He suffered the most devastating of these issues in February last year when he sustained an ACL injury during a clash against Crystal Palace.
After ten months on the sidelines and corrective surgery, he made a sensational return to training in October 2025. His official comeback came on November 30, fittingly against Crystal Palace. He was a key player under now-sacked head coach Ruben Amorim. Caretaker boss Michael Carrick has also heavily relied on the Argentina international , who has formed a solid partnership with Harry Maguire.
Martinez has missed United’s last three games with a slight calf issue.
In his absence, the Red Devils got a first taste of defeat under Carrick, losing 2-1 to Newcastle last week at St James’ Park.
It’s thought that his injury is not serious and he could be back in time for Sunday’s clash against Aston Villa.
Martinez spoke to D Sports [via TyC Sports ] and revealed how his fellow countrymen, Mac Allister and Martinez, turned up at his home to support him.
The United star said, “It was one of the toughest situations. I needed everyone’s help; without them, it wouldn’t have been easy.”
“You have to start from scratch again. Dibu and Mac Allister showed up at my house to support me.”
He continued, “That shows what we are like in the national team, how we look out for each other. Dibu sent me a message. He said, ‘I’m coming to your house.’ And when he arrived, he said, ‘Look, Mac Allister is coming too .’ ‘Oh well, you handle it,’ I told him.”
“It was a really nice moment.”
Martinez attributed the great chemistry in the national team to the leadership of Lionel Scaloni and Lionel Messi.
“The national team’s coaching staff behaves like human beings. They set aside their roles as coaches or physical trainers and become teammates; that’s the beautiful thing we’ve created as a group.”
“I think Leo has something that’s hard to find: composure, balance and tranquillity in moments of maximum tension, like against Mexico, for example. What’s difficult simplifies everything, and that speaks volumes about him. He’s an example through his actions.”
Martinez previously revealed that he considered retiring while dealing with the ACL injury.
