Liverpool vs Bilbao: Slot's Reds Face Stern Pre-Season Test

Fresh off their pre-season tour of Hong Kong and Japan, Liverpool are heading back home for a spectacular double-header against Spanish side Athletic Bilbao on Monday evening. Arne Slot's side kicked off their pre-season with a 3-1 win over Preston North End in early July.

A 5-0 drubbing of Stoke City followed, in what was a behind closed doors encounter with the Premier League champions' new signings receiving glowing reviews . It was in the Far East where the Reds met their first stern test of the summer where they faced AC Milan.

After losing 4-2 to the Italian giants, Liverpool wrapped up their travels with a 3-1 win over J League outfit Yokohama F Marinos , with new signing Florian Wirtz getting on the scoresheet.

Athletic Club finished fourth in La Liga last season. The Lions have managed to keep hold of star player Nico Williams, who snubbed Barcelona to sign a new 10-year contract while Robert Navarro and Jesus Areso have also joined Ernesto Valverde's side.

Liverpool have been active in the summer window bringing in German superstar Wirtz, Hungarian defender Milos Kerkez, Dutch full-back Jeremie Frimpong and young French striker Hugo Ekitike. The Reds' have also launched an audacious bid to land Newcastle United stiker Alexander Isak after Luis Diaz left for Bayern Munich .
