Daniel Munoz was struck in the head by a ball hurled by a Liverpool supporter in the latter stages of Crystal Palace's 3-1 defeat at Anfield. The atmosphere inside the ground was electric as the full-back moved to take a throw-in for his side, the Reds having watched their 2-0 advantage reduced after Munoz netted in contentious circumstances just moments before.

Jeers echoed around the stadium as furious onlookers berated Munoz, while a spare ball was launched in his direction - connecting with the back of his head. As he spun round to face supporters on the opposite side of the advertising boards, the Colombian was greeted with multiple gestures before referee Andy Madley walked over to speak with him.

Maxence Lacroix also arrived to back his colleague, before Munoz executed the throw-in and the match resumed. It follows Munoz's goal against Liverpool being greeted with derision, given the manner in which he found the net.

Ismaila Sarr was through one-on-one with Freddie Woodman before firing from point-blank range, with the Liverpool goalkeeper denying the effort with his leg.

Woodman instantly collapsed to the turf in visible discomfort as he appeared to have twisted his knee in the incident, before the ball fell to Munoz on the edge of the box.

While Virgil van Dijk and Alexis Mac Allister threw their arms up appealing for play to be stopped, with their goalkeeper flat out on the pitch, the referee's whistle remained silent.

Munoz seized the moment to chip the ball over the Liverpool defensive line and into the net before racing away in celebration - his strike standing firm despite fierce protests from several Reds players.

Arne Slot was visibly incensed on the touchline, the Dutchman equally convinced that play ought to have been halted to allow Woodman to receive attention from the medical staff.

As Armin Pecsi readied himself to come on in place of Woodman, the third-choice stopper was ultimately able to carry on following treatment from the physios.

This all unfolded as Liverpool secured all three points against Palace on home turf, courtesy of strikes from Alexander Isak, Andy Robertson and Florian Wirtz. Yet the match was not without its concerns for the Premier League giants.

Mohamed Salah was forced off just 15 minutes into the second half, seemingly struggling with one of his hamstrings. Jeremie Frimpong was brought on to replace him, though there are growing fears this could prove to be Salah's last outing in the red of Liverpool .

The Egyptian forward has confirmed he will depart the club he has called home for nine years at the end of the season, as the Reds prepare to navigate life without their inspirational figurehead.

Should Salah miss Liverpool's forthcoming fixtures against Manchester United , Chelsea , Aston Villa and Brentford through injury, supporters could have already witnessed his last appearance in a Red shirt.
