Liverpool could acquire Jadon Sancho on a free transfer this summer - six years after Jurgen Klopp said the Manchester United flop would suit the Merseyside giants. The 26-year-old is set to leave Old Trafford when his contract expires on June 30 , ending a disappointing five-year stint at the club.

Despite having the option to extend his deal by an extra year, the United hierarchy opted to sever ties with the winger, who hasn't played for the club since August 2024. Sancho's career could have looked vastly different if Klopp got his wish in 2020 prior to his move to United.

The former England star was linked with the Red Devils in his penultimate season with Dortmund, while German publication Kicker reported that he favoured a move to Anfield. Fresh off becoming Premier League champions for the first time, Klopp was asked about Liverpool's chances of buying the then-highly rated talent.

He told German newspaper Bild: "The red shirt [of Liverpool ] would suit very well. I don't think such a transfer will be possible this season. He [Sancho] is a very interesting player.

"If he's coming to Liverpool I would be the most surprised of all of us." A year later, Sancho became a United player in a £73million deal , joining the club alongside the returning Cristiano Ronaldo and Raphael Varane.

Sancho's impending free agent status means he's up for grabs, although with his career having stalled in recent years, the appeal of signing him has significantly faded. While a move to Liverpool would be unlikely given his lack of suitability to Andoni Iraola's high-tempo style of playing, the Reds are in need of attacking signings.

With Mohamed Salah exiting the club, Hugo Ekitike's injury likely ruling him out for the first half of the season and the uncertain future of Federico Chiesa, Liverpool fans could witness a revamp of their forward line.

Replacing Salah will prove to be an almost impossible task but should the Reds win the race for Yan Diomande, he could be quite the successor. It was reported last month that the Premier League side are leading the chase for the RB Leipzig winger, who is also subject to interest from Paris Saint-Germain .

The Bundesliga side have reportedly placed a £87m valuation on their 19-year-old starlet , who on Monday helped the Ivory Coast defeat Ecuador 1-0 in their opening World Cup 2026 match.

Sky has upgraded its Ultimate TV and Sky Sports bundle to now include HBO Max, Netflix, Disney+, discovery+ and Hayu, as well as 135 channels and full Sky coverage of the Premier League and EFL.
