Liverpool have activated an option to extend Alisson ’s contract in order to fight off interest from Juventus . The Brazilian goalkeeper’s current deal was set to expire this summer, with a free transfer potentially on the cards.

Juventus have been credited with an interest in Alisson’s services but it appears that he will not be on the move any time soon. Liverpool have activated an option to extend his deal by a further campaign which sees him committed to the club until 2027.

That update comes amid news from Italy that Juventus are going to attempt a fresh move for his services. According to Gazzetta dello Sport , the Italian giants have prioritised a move for a new goalkeeper, with Alisson a priority, while Spurs star Guglielmo Vicario is also seen as a potential option.

It is further suggested that Juventus hope to use Luciano Spalletti’s prior relationship to convince Alisson to make the move - the pair having worked together at former club Roma. The Serie A side would also be happy to pay the annual €6m (£5.1m) wage packet that he would demand.

Alisson, 33, has proven to be an inspired signing for Liverpool, having arrived for €75m (£64m) from Roma back in 2018. He has gone on to make 330 appearances, winning two Premier League titles, the Champions League , the FA Cup and League Cup.

Should Liverpool decide to cash-in, they have Alisson’s replacement already at Anfield, having signed Giorgi Mamardashvili in the summer. His minutes have been limited this season, having made just 12 appearances in all competitions.

"My ex-goalkeeper coach, Jose Manuel Ochotorena, when I was at Valencia told me I had to find a balance between ambition and patience," the Georgian said recently. "So I keep working hard and you never know when your chance is coming.

"It’s, of course, never easy because there is just one goalkeeper. But as I said, if I don’t play, I don’t mind - I have to work hard every day and that’s it. My time will come, for sure. Maybe not this year, but my time will come.

"For me as well [joining Liverpool], it was a bit longer [to wait] because I signed for Liverpool two years ago, almost three years ago and I had to wait last season until I came here. It was a really long one year for me, and now I am happy to be here.

"The most important thing for me was the support because I didn't speak much English so for me, it helped. Mac Allister, Alisson as well [helped] and now I speak much better."

Mamardashvili could get an opportunity this weekend, with Alisson facing a late fitness test ahead of Sunday’s clash with Tottenham .
