Leeds vs Brentford Premier League preview, team news and prediction

Looking to distance themselves from the Premier League relegation zone, Leeds United host European hopefuls Brentford at Elland Road on Saturday night.

The reverse fixture ended in a 1-1 draw at the Gtech Community Stadium three months ago. Leeds are winless in their last five league matches, but manager Daniel Farke has found positives, including draws against top-four contenders Chelsea (2-2) and Aston Villa (1-1), as well as a hard-fought 0-0 draw at Crystal Palace last weekend, where they played with 10 men after Gabriel Gudmundsson’s red card.

Currently 15th and just three points clear of the drop zone with eight games left, Leeds have failed to score in their last three matches, their longest drought since early 2022. Set pieces could be key, as 35.1% of their league goals this season (13 of 37) have come from dead-ball situations—a higher share than any other team.

Leeds have a strong home record against Brentford, losing just once in their last 16 league meetings at Elland Road (W7 D8), and are unbeaten in seven home games since February 2015.

Brentford, predicted by many to struggle after a summer overhaul, have defied expectations and sit seventh, occupying a Conference League spot with eight games to go. However, their momentum has slowed, with an FA Cup exit to West Ham on penalties and league draws against Bournemouth (0-0) and Wolves (2-2), the latter after letting a two-goal lead slip.

Head coach Keith Andrews expressed frustration after the Wolves draw, urging his players to reflect after surrendering control to the league’s bottom side. Brentford have dropped more points from winning positions (69) than any other Premier League team over the past three seasons and will need to be more resolute to secure their best-ever top-flight finish and close the three-point gap to sixth-placed Chelsea.

The Bees have been strong away from home, winning five of their last seven on the road (D1 L1), with only Arsenal collecting more away points in that span. Brentford have also lost just one of their last 13 league matches against promoted sides (W11 D1).

Leeds manager Daniel Farke has a fully fit squad to choose from, with attacker Noah Okafor returning after missing five games due to a hamstring injury. However, Gabriel Gudmundsson is suspended for one match following his red card against Crystal Palace. As a result, James Justin may shift to left wing-back, with Jayden Bogle likely to start on the right.

Anton Stach, who has created 27 chances from set pieces this season—matched only by Bruno Fernandes—could start in an advanced midfield role alongside Brenden Aaronson, supporting striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who scored a late equaliser in the reverse fixture against Brentford.

For Brentford, Vitaly Janelt (ankle), Aaron Hickey, Rico Henry (both thigh), Fabio Carvalho, Antoni Milambo, and Josh Dasilva (all knee) remain sidelined. Mikkel Damsgaard will be assessed after picking up a knock against Wolves. If he is unavailable, Yehor Yarmolyuk could step into midfield, with Mathias Jensen expected to play further forward.

Dango Ouattara and Kevin Schade are set to support striker Igor Thiago in attack. Thiago is just one goal away from reaching 20 Premier League goals this season, aiming to become only the third Brentford player to hit that milestone after Ivan Toney (2022-23) and Bryan Mbeumo (2024-25).
