Kate Scott (formerly Abdo) has established herself as one of Britain's best and most popular sports presenters. The 44-year-old is known for being the face of CBS Sports' football coverage since 2020, fronting the UEFA Champions League Today show alongside Micah Richards, Thierry Henry and Jamie Carragher .
She has built an impressive career in the broadcasting world , with stints at some of the biggest media organisations globally. But who exactly is the Manchester-born television star and what does her life look like beyond the spotlight? Here, Mirror Sport examines all the key facts, including the tale of her journey to stardom, her romance with a former heavyweight boxer and the awkward spat she experienced with one of her closest co-workers.
Despite being born and raised in England, Scott moved to Spain at 17 to perfect her Spanish and finish her high school education. She then returned to the UK to secure a master's degree in European languages from the University of Salford, while also studying translation and interpreting at the University of Malaga.

She later embarked on a career in journalism, though would later admit to finding it difficult to secure a job in her early years in the industry. Looking back on her life before stardom, Scott revealed to her CBS colleagues that she previously worked at popular high street bakery chain Greggs .
"Do you know who else used to work for Greggs? One and only... yes I did," she declared during a live broadcast, before amusingly adding: "I wasn't dripping in Louis Vuitton quite so much back then but yeah, that was my first job."
Scott's rise through the broadcasting world has been truly impressive. Her professional career kicked off in 2005 when she secured an internship at Deutsche Welle, Germany's international news outlet. By 2006, she'd secured a position as a production assistant for Goal, the Bundesliga Magazine and continued her upward momentum presenting news and sports coverage for Deutsche Welle's English and German services until 2009.
She gathered further momentum upon joining CNN, where she became a familiar face as anchor of their 'World Sports' programme. She then moved to Sky Sports News in Germany as the lead anchor, cementing her reputation. Scott later joined the broadcaster's UK team, fronting both Sky Sports News and several boxing PPVs, alongside coverage of European football fixtures abroad.

Her appeal was such that Fox Sports recruited her to front their Women's World Cup programming in 2015. Soon afterwards, Scott pursued opportunities across the Atlantic by relocating to America and signing with Fox permanently, spearheading the network's Champions League and Europa League coverage.
However, after Fox lost the broadcasting rights to the competition, she left for TNT, before eventually joining CBS in 2020. There, she was named presenter of the increasingly popular UEFA Champions League Today programme, which also features Premier League legends Henry, Carragher and Richards. All in all, her journalism career has earned her an impressive net worth of between £2million and £5m.

Scott hit the headlines following an awkward on-air exchange with CBS colleague Carragher in 2024. During a live broadcast of Arsenal vs Porto, former Manchester City star Richards opted to wear an Arsenal shirt, before encouraging Carragher to do the same.
The Liverpool legend cheekily suggested that she should put it on instead but the devoted Manchester United fan flatly refused, saying: "No, I'm loyal. I'm loyal." Carragher responded, joking: "To who?" Prompting Scott to state: "Manchester United, thank you very much."
The light-hearted banter then took an awkward turn when Carragher made a tongue-in-cheek remark about her then-fiancé Malik Scott, leaving both the panel and viewers shocked. Caught off guard, Scott exclaimed: "What? Why would you even say that," as Carragher let out a nervous laugh.
The footage was widely shared across social media, prompting Malik, a former professional boxer, to issue a firm warning that he would "show up in a physical manner" if Carragher overstepped the mark again. The tension swiftly dissipated by the following day, however, with Kate making light of the incident at the beginning of their live programme.

She said: "This group, we've been together now for three-and-a-half-years is it? And I grew up with a brother and doing this show I feel like I've gained three more here." She then referred to Henry as "the golden child who can do no wrong," and called Richards "the little bro - loud by loveable," before turning her attention to Carragher.
"Then there is the middle child, Jamie Carragher. Chip on his shoulder, capable of saying anything for attention," she joked. "Does he go too far sometimes? Absolutely. Does he apologise? Yes, he does - but all of us have that one annoying family member that we still love and accept."
Malik later revealed that Carragher had offered a face-to-face apology for the remark, stating: "It was not something I lost any sleep over because I noticed the way Kate handled it was very, very well, and Jamie was just being Jamie and I have no problem with him. You chop it up and apologise like men, which he did, and life goes on. I respect anyone who has a mishap and is man enough to apologise to the person and the person's partner. I felt no ill feelings when we met.
"The thing that Jamie said, Kate was hurt, but they all made up and handled it collectively at the time. I said my piece on it, but the real thing is, we all got together and looked into each other's eyes and had great food and great conversations. I never had a strong opinion about Jamie Carragher, only about the things that he said, but meeting him, I really enjoyed the man's company. I have the utmost respect for him, as well as the rest of the panel."

British boxer Derek Chisora will face American Deontay Wilder at London's O2 Arena on Saturday, April 4.
In September 2024, she tied the knot with Malik in an extravagant ceremony in Malibu Hills, California. In homage to her husband's boxing background, the wedding festivities included an elaborate cake designed to celebrate the sport deemed to have "saved his life."
Malik was clearly moved by his wife's heartfelt wedding tribute, saying: "Kate did something incredibly creative, caring and compassionate, reflecting the walk of life I come from. She took an old picture of my first ABC Gym in North Philadelphia, where I was raised, the gym that essentially saved my life.
"She copied the ring from that gym and turned it into a cake, with me in the ring wearing the boxing trunks I had on when I fought Tony Thompson. Those trunks had a design I borrowed from Sugar Ray Leonard when he fought Tommy Hearns the second time, but I added my own colours - pink and black with stripes. She even put herself next to me in a wedding dress.
"The thoughtfulness and creativity moved me to tears because it took me back to my childhood in that ring, where I faced many challenges, learned hard lessons, and grew. That ring always meant the world to me. She made sure to incorporate that into our wedding day, placing us both in the ring on the cake, her in a wedding dress, me in my boxing outfit. The contrast was beautiful, thoughtful and loving."
Starting out in boxing at the age of 11, he went on to claim the Junior Olympic Champion title by 17. His professional career spanning from 2000 to 2016 saw him manage a brilliant record of 38-3-1, sharing the canvas with big names such as Derek Chisora and Deontay Wilder - who face off this Saturday night for the very first time.

Though a world title eluded him, he earned the admiration of his peers, rivals and boxing fans across the globe for his ferocious punching power and warrior spirit. He then moved into coaching, joining forces with former foe Wilder in 2021 and working the corner for bouts against Tyson Fury , Robert Helenius, Joseph Parker and Zhilei Zhang.
However, Malik parted ways with Wilder last year after the latter lost three of his previous four contests. Despite no longer being in Wilder's corner, the two Americans remain on good terms. Wilder said: "We're brothers, and always will be brothers. We talk all the time and there's nothing bad between us. Sometimes things change and this was one of those times."
