Young Manchester United star Kai Rooney has already revealed the extent of his lofty ambitions. The son of the legendary Wayne Rooney once declared that he hoped to be a regular for United in the next ten years.

Kai, 16, has emerged as one of United's brightest talents in recent seasons. Just like his father, Kai is a prolific striker whose primary attribute is his ability to put the ball in the back of the net. However, the youngster recently transitioned to a right-wing role and could even play for the first-team this season , however unlikely that may be.

Speaking in 2023 he opened up on the extent of his objectives should he graduate to the top level of the game. He showcased that, despite his footballing royalty lineage, he is ready to knuckle down and put the hard yards in to achieve his dreams.

Kai said: "In 10 years, hopefully I will be playing in the Premier League for Man United. That’s where I see myself but I’ve got to make it happen with the hard work and everything behind the scenes."

“I could play on the wing as well, but I’m mainly a striker that scores goals,” he said while playing for Manchester Grammar Schools at an international tournament in 2023.

“That’s what I’ve got to keep doing to win the tournament. I’m quite pleased with my performances. Obviously, I could have been better, but generally, I think that I have been quite good.”

Replicating his father's legendary accomplishments will be no easy feat. Wayne scored 253 times to become United's record goalscorer, but Kai has shown encouraging glimpses of his potential

In the 2021/22 campaign with United's Under-12 side, Kai amassed 56 goals and contributed 28 assists in one season alone. That means he played a role in 84 goals throughout the year

Earlier this month, he struck four times for United's U16s, and his performances have also earned him several outings with the U18 squad, despite being one of its youngest members.

“He’s enjoying it,” his father Wayne told The Athletic in July 2023. “That’s the most important thing. He’s doing everything he can to try to have a career in football and not just him, my other children as well.

“They love the game and my advice — to any children — is play to enjoy. There’s that much pressure when you do get to the professional level and sometimes you forget why you’re playing the game.

“You’re playing because you love playing the game and you enjoy playing the game. As long as you’re doing everything right to give yourself the best opportunity then you never know.”

Representing Liverpool Schoolboys, the teenage Wayne once scored 72 goals in a single season - a benchmark that lasted for almost 20 years.

At just nine, playing for Copplehouse boys' club in the Walton and Kirkdale junior league, he struck 99 goals during the 1994/95 season. That relentless scoring spree attracted Everton scout Bob Pendleton, who secured his signature for the Toffees

After entering Everton's academy, the goals kept flowing. In 1995/96, splitting time between the club's U10 and U11 teams, Wayne compiled an extraordinary 114 goals in just 29 matches.
