Jamie O’Hara has put forward Harry Redknapp or Sean Dyche as two names who could come in and rescue Tottenham following Igor Tudor’s disastrous start at the club.

Spurs’ wretched season hit a new low on Tuesday night as they were thumped by Atletico Madrid in a humbling 5-2 defeat in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 tie .

The visitors were their own worst enemy at the Metropolitano Stadium, with two horrendous blunders from rookie goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky and a horrible Micky van de Ven slip gifting Atleti a three-goal lead inside just 15 minutes.

Tudor decided to haul Kinsky off in the immediate aftermath of Julian Alvarez’s strike, only for Guglielmo Vicario to conceded another just seven minutes later as Robin Le Normand increased the deficit to pile yet more misery on Tottenham.

Goals from Pedro Porro and Dominic Solanke either side of Alvarez’s second made the scoreline look a little less ugly from Spurs’ perspective – but it proved a chastening experience for those fans who had made the trip to the Spanish capital.

The result saw Tudor became the first Tottenham manager in history to lose his first four games in charge of the club . It is also the first time ever that the north London outfit have lost six straight matches in all competitions.

Before they can even think about the round-of-16 second leg, Tottenham turn their attentions on Sunday afternoon when they resume their fight for Premier League survival away to the champions Liverpool.

‘I can’t believe Tudor hasn’t gone,’ ex-Tottenham midfielder O’Hara said on Sky Sports News this morning.

‘That’s the worrying thing for me, how is it not breaking news that he’s gone? He should have been out the door at 9am.

‘I can’t believe he is still there, I can’t believe Tottenham have not come out with a statement.

‘He can’t be involved with this football club any more. He can’t be around these players, they’re absolutely gone. The way they played last night says that they’ve checked out.’

According to O’Hara, Tottenham have gone backwards in ‘every department’ since Tudor took over the reins from Thomas Frank.

‘He can’t be going into the training ground today and taking another session. He’s been there three weeks, lost four games and conceded 14 goals,’ he continued.

‘We’ve got worse in every department from Thomas Frank. The whole point in bringing in a new manager was to get a bounce.

‘There’s so many things wrong – who brought him in? But you have to pull the trigger. He cannot be in charge against Liverpool. He cannot take any more training.

‘I don’t think these players can stand him, I don’t think they want him around.

‘He’s buried their confidence and belief, the way he’s hung them out to dry.’

O’Hara is confident Spurs posses the quality to get themselves out of trouble, as long as they act quickly and replace Tudor with a manager capable of lifting the squad.

‘There’s two options for the next manager. Someone who knows the club inside out, has been there when they’ve had success, has had a decent run with a squad of players,’ he explained.

‘Or you get someone in who has been involved in the Premier League this season, is managing at the moment but might not be in a job right now and can get a tune out of these players.

‘You do not need a tactician. You need a man to go in there and make these players feel like they’re the best in the world.’

O’Hara went on: ‘They’re on the floor. Some of these players are not performing, they’re miles off it but they’re not this bad. I’ve seen Pape Matar Sarr play really well. I’ve seen Xavi Simons , Archie Gray play well. Djed Spence plays for England.

‘Micky van de Ven. We talk about him being a top centre half. They’re not this bad. It’s because of this manager who has come in all guns blazing, he’s dug them out in the press and he’s not brought any positivity to the club whatsoever.

‘Two names for me – Harry Redknapp , he’s been out of the game but he knows the club, he knows what it is to win and he’s a great man manager who will give the boys confidence.

‘Or there is Sean Dyche .I thought he was doing alright at Forest, but they’ve sacked him. He’s been involved in the Premier League this season, he knows the tactics of every team, he’s a man manager, I think he’ll get a tune out of the lads and I think he’ll make them feel good.’

Mauricio Pochettino – who was watching on from the stands on Tuesday evening – is among the bookmakers’ favourites to replace Tudor, along with the likes of Roberto De Zerbi, Robbie Keane, Redknapp and Dyche.

‘We apologise to the fans today, also to everyone,’ a dejected Tudor told TNT Sports shortly after the final whistle in Madrid.

‘It was a difficult moment. Everything looks like going wrong, more mistakes, everything like this. Unbelievable.

‘Even the situation at the end with two players [clashing heads], it looks like everything is going against us.’

Asked if he remained confident about turning Spurs ’ fortunes around, the Croatian replied: ‘I need to have, I need to keep working.

‘As I said, not speaking too much, stay focussed on things we can do.

‘And I said before, unbelievable, difficult to explain. It’s the first time I see this, all the things, in my career of 15 years.

‘What can I tell you? My focus is on the problems and the players also so we need to stay positive.’

Pressed on whether he expected to be given more time by Spurs bosses, Tudor responded: ‘It’s not about me, it’s not for me to explain too much.

‘We need to stay calm and do less talking.

‘Now is not the moment to give big explanations. We need to stay calm and continue.’
