Arsenal full-back Jurrien Timber has shown his joy at Max Dowman's maiden Premier League strike in the win over Everton , despite enduring an injury blow earlier in the game. Timber departed the field against the Toffees, having been unable to run off a leg problem.

He was caught up in a collision with Iliman Ndiye midway through the opening period. Despite trying to carry on, he was ultimately forced off in the 37th minute, with Cristhian Mosquera coming on in his place.

The scoreline stood at 0-0 at that stage, and remained that way until the 89th minute when Viktor Gyokeres eventually broke the deadlock from close range.

The Gunners were attempting to close out the contest deep into stoppage time, when substitute Max Dowman sparked a counter-attack and surged virtually the entire length of the field to score the second goal of the game and clinch all three points for Mikel Arteta 's men.

The victory, coupled with Manchester City's 1-1 draw with West Ham , means that Arsenal have opened up a nine-point gap at the top of the Premier League table.

After the final whistle, Dowman posted his reaction on social media . Timber shared that post on his own Instagram story accompanied by a red heart emoji - marking the defender's sole social media activity since the fitness scare.

Arteta wasn't quizzed about Timber's status after the match, with the defender now uncertain for several vital fixtures looming across four separate competitions.

It's a swift turnaround for Arsenal as they return to action on Tuesday night in the second leg of their Champions League round of 16 encounter against Bayer Leverkusen.
