Jurgen Klopp's dream attacking partnership could finally become a reality this summer - just not at Liverpool . The former Reds boss was eager to bring Anthony Gordon to Anfield during his final year in charge, but Liverpool were unable to persuade Newcastle to part ways with the winger.

Fast forward two years, and Gordon has completed a £70million move to Barcelona , opening the door to an intriguing reunion of Klopp's transfer ambitions. According to reports, the Catalan giants are also weighing up a move for former Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez , who joined Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal last summer.

Should Nunez make the switch to Camp Nou, Barcelona would inherit the very attacking combination Klopp once envisioned at Liverpool, with Gordon's pace and directness potentially complementing the Uruguayan's relentless running and physical presence in the final third.

With Robert Lewandowski set to leave this summer, Barcelona are searching for a new focal point in attack. However, after committing a significant chunk of their transfer budget to Gordon, the Catalan giants are exploring more affordable options up front.

This is where Nunez comes in. The former Liverpool striker joined Al-Hilal in a £46m deal last summer, but his stock has fallen considerably over the past 12 months.

The arrival of Karim Benzema shortly after Nunez's move pushed the Uruguayan down the pecking order, and he was ultimately omitted from Al-Hilal's squad for the second half of the season. As a result, he has not made a club appearance since February.

Despite his reduced role, Nunez still returned a respectable nine goals in 24 appearances for the Saudi side - an improvement on the seven goals he scored in 47 games during his final season at Liverpool. While he found the net 40 times in total for the Reds, he never fully lived up to the £85m fee Liverpool paid to sign him.

That underwhelming record has done little to deter Barcelona, who appear willing to gamble on the 26-year-old rediscovering his best form. However, relying on Nunez to replace Lewandowski's goals would represent a significant risk.

That risk could be eased if Barcelona also secure the signing of Marcus Rashford . The Manchester United forward spent the 2025/26 season on loan at the Camp Nou and is keen on making the move permanent.

Talks between the two clubs have been ongoing for several months, although Barcelona have so far been reluctant to trigger Rashford's £26m release clause.

Gordon's arrival may have complicated the England international's path to Catalonia, but a deal cannot be ruled out. Whether through a permanent transfer or another loan agreement, negotiations remain active and Barcelona are still weighing up their options.
