Jurgen Klopp hints at next coaching job but dismisses ‘nonsense’ Real Madrid links
Former Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has said he still intends to return to football management but dismissed suggestions he is set to become Real Madrid boss this summer as “nonsense”
Klopp left Liverpool at the end of the 2023-24 season following nine successful years at the helm, having shockingly announced his decision to depart in January 2024, saying he was “running out of energy”.
The German has since been appointed as head of global football at Red Bull , although is regularly spoken about for the biggest managerial vacancies given his track record not only at Anfield but also with Mainz and Borussia Dortmund, having led the latter to back-to-back Bundesliga titles in 2011 and 2012.

The 58-year-old has been linked with a move to replace Alvaro Arbeloa as Real Madrid boss at the end of the season but strenuously denied those reports, although did suggest he is still keen to get back into coaching at some point.
Klopp told reporters at the Magenta TV World Cup team presentation in Munich: “If Real Madrid had phoned, we would have heard about it by now.
“But that’s all nonsense. They haven’t called even once, not once. My agent is there, you can ask him. They haven’t called him either. Right now I’m not thinking about that, luckily there’s no reason to.
“For my age, I’m quite advanced in life, but as a coach I’m not completely finished. I haven’t reached retirement age. Who knows what will happen in the coming years? But there’s nothing planned.”

Klopp has said he would never manage any English club other than Liverpool (AP)
Given Arne Slot’s second-season struggles at Anfield , it has been speculated that Klopp could make a hugely popular return to Liverpool, although whether he’d want to go back to a job he so recently departed is a live question.
In his statement upon leaving the Reds two years ago, Klopp made it clear he would never coach another Premier League side other than Liverpool.
“What I know definitely is that I will never, ever manage a different club in England than Liverpool, 100 percent,” he said at the time. “That's not possible.”
