‘I can guarantee…’: Romano confirms what he’s hearing about Guimaraes to MUFC after ‘advanced talks’ claim

Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Bruno Guimaraes is one of a host of midfielders being considered by Manchester United as they prepare for Casemiro’s departure this summer.

The seasoned veteran will draw the curtains on his Old Trafford career in June when his contract expires, spelling the end of a four-year stint with United.

According to recent reports, Casemiro is rumoured to have named Guimaraes to INEOS as an ideal candidate to fill his void next term.

The Newcastle United skipper has consistently been one of the best defensive midfielders in the Premier League in recent seasons.

His impact at St. James’ Park has been second to none – to the point you couldn’t really imagine the club reaching such highs, like ending a two-decade wait to play in the Champions League and winning the League Cup, without him in Eddie Howe’s ranks.

However, at 28 years old, it wouldn’t come as too much of a surprise if Guimaraes was starting to consider embarking on a new venture, even more so if Newcastle fail to secure their UCL spot before the end of the term.

They currently sit ninth-placed heading into matchweek 31, which could prompt a slight overhaul on Tyneside if they have no European football to offer in 2026/2027; Sandro Tonali, for example, is expected to explore a move elsewhere if that is the case.

As for his captain, it was claimed on Thursday that United were in ‘advanced talks’ to seal an early deal for Guimaraes , who’s also attracted interest from Real Madrid, over a potential £70 million transfer.

Romano has sought to squash such speculation, although he has verified that the Magpies talisman is on United’s radar.

“Bruno is one of many players they appreciate,” Romano told the Market Madness podcast. “I can guarantee that, at this stage, there are several candidates to become a new Man United midfielder, but don’t forget how complicated it is to sign top players from Newcastle. It’s not easy at all.”
