Gary Cahill takes swipe at 'sloppy' Chelsea star after Everton defeat

Gary Cahill confessed his patience is wearing thing with error-prone Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sanchez following Saturday’s damaging 3-0 defeat against Everton .

The Blues, still licking their wounds following their midweek capitulation against PSG ,were boosted prior to kick-off after learning that Liverpool had been beaten at Brighton .

With a chance to cement their position in the race for Champions League qualification, Liam Rosenior would have been anticipating a response from his side.

Instead, Chelsea were second best all over the pitch as Everton ran riot andenhanced their own chances of European qualification.

Beto opened the scoring in the 32nd minute, applying the perfect finish to James Garner’s sublime through ball.

The Brazilian forward’s second goal, however, owed as much to the frailty of Chelsea’s goalkeeper as it did his own industrious running with Sanchez letting a shot from a tight angle squirm between his legs and into the net.

Sanchez is only back in the Chelsea team as a result of the injury sustained by Filip Jorgensen with the Spain international having been taken out of the firing line after his mistakes a recent 2-1 defeat at Arsenal.

Cahill insists he has regularly been backing the former Brighton star but admits he cannot continue to keep making errors if he is to remain part of Chelsea’s long-term plans.

He said: ‘Obviously the goalkeeper will be hugely disappointed with that, you know nine times out of 10 he’d just be gathering them but it goes through his legs.

‘Very sloppy, very sloppy. I’ve backed him, I like him.

‘I think he’s got personality and he can play out from the back I think at times he’s a great shot stopper. I’m willing him to stop making these mistakes and these are costly at the moment.

‘He’ll be disappointed, he’ll know. He’s a professional goalkeeper and he’ll understand in these moments he has to do better. At the moment these situations are costly.’

Everton’s two-goal hero, Beto, meanwhile, typified the selfless play that was a hallmark of every player called upon by David Moyes and he refused to get carried away by his own performance.

He said: ‘I don’t think I’m a hero. I feel like I’m home. Playing for Everton is something unbelievable.

‘You just want to give your all and help the team with goals, assists, good performances, anything. I’m really happy.

‘Today was a must win game for us. Since we came out of the hotel the fans were shouting. They knew.
