Fabrizio Romano issues decisive update on Carlo Ancelotti to Man United
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has given an update on the possibility of Manchester United hiring Carlo Ancelotti as their next permanent manager.
Despite Michael Carrick’s success since he was named Ruben Amorim’s temporary replacement in December last year, it is believed that United are still keeping their options open.
Carrick has enjoyed a fantastic start to life in the dugout, winning six, drawing one and losing one of the eight games he has taken charge of. Heading into this weekend’s round of fixtures, United sit in third place in the Premier League table and firmly on course to qualify for the Champions League.
Carrick is a candidate for the job and his hand will surely be strengthened if he gets the Red Devils back to Europe, but United have been adamant that they will conduct a thorough recruitment process.
Other coaches who continue to be linked to the Old Trafford hot seat include Roberto De Zerbi, Oliver Glasner, Luis Enrique, Gareth Southgate and Ancelotti.
Widely regarded as one of the best managers of his generation, Ancelotti has enjoyed incredible success wherever he has been.
He is currently in charge of the Brazil national team and preparing the Selecao for the World Cup, but this has done little to dampen talk of him potentially joining United. Gareth Bale recently remarked that Ancelotti would be a shrewd appointment for United. Paul Scholes has also called for him to be handed the job.
However, according to Romano, there is no chance of that happening.
Speaking on his YouTube channel , Romano said, “I wanted to tell you, since some of you keep asking me about Thomas Tuchel and Carlo Ancelotti as candidates for the Manchester United job.”
“Carlo Ancelotti remains in advanced talks with the Brazilian federation to sign a new contract and it’s not until 2028, it would be until 2030, so until the next World Cup.”
“Imagine how happy he can be with Brazil and how the Brazilian Federation is happy with Ancelotti.”
The Italian journalist added, “So no contacts underway between Manchester United and Ancelotti. No contacts underway between Manchester United and Tuchel.”
“They are both expected to continue their national teams.”
Tuchel, who has also been strongly linked with the United role in the past, penned a new deal to continue his time with the England national team through to Euro 2028.
