Rojo, 35, has signed for Argentina top flight side Racing Club.

But he will not be allowed to display his full name on the back of his shirt, as he did at his previous clubs including United .

That is because the Avellaneda-based club are city rivals with Independiente, whose nickname is 'El Rojo', which means The Reds.

So Racing Club have forced the defender to drop the name as they do not want to promote their rivals.

Rojo has not taken long to find a new club after his contract was ripped up by Boca Juniors last week.

The former Argentina international has had his deal terminated by mutual consent after being banned from the dressing room and frozen out of the first team.

Rojo was involved in a bust-up behind the scenes and he and two team-mates were told they were no longer welcome at the club’s Xeneiza training centre — not even in the locker room.

Rojo joined United in 2014 from Sporting in a £16million deal under Louis van Gaal.

He won the FA Cup , League Cup and Europa League with the Red Devils, making over 120 appearances but a cruciate ligament injury in 2017 sent his career into a downward spiral.

He featured 95 times in his first three seasons in England but just 27 times in the next three.
