David Moyes calls out Premier League chiefs for controversial Chelsea fine

David Moyes has demanded an explanation from the Premier League about a lack of a points deduction for Chelsea . The Blues were recently hit with a £10.75million fine , a suspended transfer embargo and an academy transfer ban for engaging in “deception and concealment” when making illicit payments.
Chelsea self-reported themselves under their new owners, with the payments having been made under former owner Roman Abramovich.
But Everton boss Moyes has been left baffled and has called for the authorities to release a more detailed explanation of Chelsea’s punishment.
Speaking ahead of his side’s clash with the Blues this weekend, he said: “I don’t think they have explained it well enough in the reasoning what the fine was and why it was. I think they have to explain exactly what has happened here. If they don’t then we are never going to understand their reasoning why.

“This is me not being anything against Chelsea, absolutely not, I’m just saying that everybody would like to know; Everton supporters, for the pain they had to go through when they had a huge points deduction, and other clubs as well.
“Those points deductions may well have been correct, I don’t know, but we need to see what is the difference? What would you rather have, a £10m fine or a 10 point deduction? The money you get for your league place now, that might cover it.
“It would be good if we could get more of an explanation. How much is the £10m fine having an effect, really?”
Everton have of course been in the Premier League’s crosshairs in the past, having been deducted 10 points in November 2023 for breaching PSR rules, that eventually being reduced to six. The Toffees were then deducted a further two.

Midlands sides Nottingham Forest and Leicester City have also been hit with points deductions for PSR breaches. Chelsea boss Rosenior has already spoken out on Chelsea’s punishment and claims it isn’t a distraction for his side.
He said: “No, it's not a negative distraction. I think actually that's a line drawn through that issue. We can move on and we can plan to make this club as strong as possible in the long term. That's the idea from the ownership, myself and everybody involved with the club."
Chelsea currently sit sixth in the table ahead of the clash with Everton at Hill Dickinson Stadium but are just three points off of the top four.
