Ethan Nwaneri's Marseille disaster reaches new low as fans make their true thoughts known

Ethan Nwaneri's loan spell at Marseille has hit a new low after he was left out of their 1-0 victory over Toulouse on Saturday. This occurred days after the Arsenal loanee's penalty miss resulted in their French Cup exit and fans have not held back in expressing their views on the team's recent performances.
The 18-year-old became the Gunners' youngest-ever player when he debuted against Brentford in 2022 and at such a young age he quickly became a fixture in Mikel Arteta's first team. However, in an effort to provide him with more senior football, he was loaned out to France in January .
Arteta had said a key reason for choosing Marseille as Nwaneri's destination was manager Roberto De Zerbi , who had experience developing emerging Premier League talent. But he departed Marseille last month following a 5-0 loss to PSG and former Rennes boss Habib Beye has taken over .
This transition already appears to be a negative one for Nwaneri , with the youngster falling out of favour under the new manager and his performances also declining. In his last appearance, he missed the crucial penalty that led to Toulouse defeating Marseille in the French Cup and as they exacted their revenge in Ligue 1 on Saturday, Nwaneri didn't feature.

On Wednesday, Nwaneri was brought on just after half-time in what concluded as a 2-2 draw between Marseille and Toulouse in the French Cup quarter-finals.
During the ensuing penalty shootout, Nwaneri was assigned the responsibility of taking the final spot-kick of the regulation five and, needing to convert to maintain his side's involvement in the competition, blasted his attempt over the crossbar.

At first, manager Beye stood by his player, stating: "I'm not going to have a big discussion about it because what I like is the personality of a player who decides to go for it.
"When we discussed it, we were very, very clear about the shooting order. And so, they went for it, and I respect that personality. Then there's the story of the game. Unfortunately for Leo [Balerdi] and Ethan, they missed."
However, as Marseille were presented with the ideal opportunity to secure payback on Saturday when they visited Toulouse in the league, Nwaneri was once more relegated to the bench. Unlike on Wednesday, he wasn't even afforded a minute of action.

Tensions were elevated before the fixture with Marseille supporters displaying a banner outside their section that read: "You're s**t." The reality that the Arsenal loanee cannot secure a starting berth in a team whose own supporters have abandoned them speaks volumes, particularly following their recent cup elimination.
A goal from Mason Greenwood guaranteed the French outfit returned to winning ways by a 1-0 margin. But Nwaneri's disastrous loan spell continues to deteriorate further.
