Brighton & Hove Albion vs Liverpool Premier League preview, team news and prediction

Fresh off an emphatic Champions League victory in midweek, Liverpool return to Premier League action on Saturday lunchtime as they visit Brighton & Hove Albion at the Amex Stadium. The Reds are aiming to secure their first league double over Brighton since the 2019-20 season, after winning 2-0 at Anfield in December. Liverpool have also already beaten the Seagulls 3-0 in the FA Cup this season.
Brighton, who endured a difficult run of just one win in 13 league games from December, have recently found form with three wins from their last four matches. Their only defeat in that stretch came against Arsenal, in a match where they were controversially denied a penalty by VAR. Fabian Hurzeler’s side bounced back with a 1-0 win at Sunderland, moving up to 12th place and keeping their European hopes alive, just five points off the top seven with eight games to go.
Historically, Brighton have struggled against Liverpool, but they have won two and drawn one of their last three home league meetings with the Reds, including a 3-2 victory in this fixture last season. However, tightening up defensively in the first half will be crucial, as Brighton have conceded more goals before halftime (19) than after (17) this season.
Liverpool, meanwhile, produced a dominant 4-0 win over Galatasaray to reach the Champions League quarter-finals, easing pressure on head coach Arne Slot after a disappointing 1-1 draw with Tottenham last weekend. The Reds have managed just four wins in their last 12 league games and currently sit fifth, one point above Chelsea and two behind fourth-placed Aston Villa.
Late goals have been a problem for Liverpool, with eight conceded after the 90th minute this season—each costing them points. Still, Liverpool have enjoyed success against Brighton this term, winning both previous meetings without conceding, and will look to make it three straight wins over the Seagulls in a single season for the first time since 2021-22.

Brighton will be without long-term absentees Stefanos Tzimas and Adam Webster due to knee injuries. Kaoru Mitoma (ankle) and Carlos Baleba (unspecified) are minor doubts and will be assessed before kickoff. If available, Baleba could compete with veteran James Milner for a midfield spot, alongside Yasin Ayari, Jack Hinshelwood, and Pascal Gross. Up front, Danny Welbeck is likely to retain his place despite a modest scoring record against Liverpool, while Diego Gomez and Yankuba Minteh may continue on the wings unless Mitoma returns.
For Liverpool, Alexander Isak (leg), Conor Bradley, Giovanni Leoni (both knee), and Wataru Endo (ankle) remain sidelined. Mohamed Salah is a doubt after being substituted late against Galatasaray with a possible injury; Cody Gakpo, Rio Ngumoha, and Jeremie Frimpong are options to start on the right if Salah is unavailable. Hugo Ekitike, who netted both goals in Liverpool’s last league win over Brighton, is expected to lead the attack, while Dominik Szoboszlai should continue in the number 10 role, aiming to score for a third consecutive game.
