As Arsenal’s battles for trophies persist on the pitch, they have also been the subject of transfer speculation off it. The Gunners took on Bayer Leverkusen in the last-16 of the Champions League quarter-finals on Tuesday night.

But there will be no respite for Mikel Arteta ’s side, as they will now turn their attention to a monumental Carabao Cup final clash with Manchester City this Sunday. It represents a chance for Arteta to lift his first trophy since the FA Cup win back in 2020, which came in his first season in charge.

The Spaniard’s project has since gone from strength to strength, with Arsenal also favourites to lift the Premier League trophy this season. They extended their lead over City in the table to nine points with the recent hard-fought 2-0 win over Everton .

Arsenal are reportedly set to miss out on one of their preferred transfer targets this summer. The Gunners in recent weeks have been linked with a move for Paris Saint-Germain winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia .

The 25-year-old made a £59million move from Napoli to the French capital in January 2025 and went on to win both the Champions League and Ligue 1 that same season, knocking Arsenal out of the former along the way. He has attracted plenty of interest thanks to his scintillating dribbling and finishing prowess, with the Gunners also keen, given their left wing position needs urgent attention in the transfer market.

However, Fabrizio Romano has now claimed Kvaratskhelia is expected to remain at PSG this summer. Romano says the Parisians view the Georgian as a crucial player in their squad and will not entertain any offers for him under any circumstances.

Romano also admitted that Arsenal appreciate the player, though he did not mention whether they were considering submitting a bid.

Rio Ferdinand believes Max Dowman could soon replace Gunners captain Martin Odegaard in the starting line-up. Dowman, 16, announced himself to the world with his game-changing display as a substitute against Everton at the weekend, where he set up one and scored his first goal for the club .

The Hale End academy star played on the wing but is used more centrally in the youth team ranks, suggesting his role in the future could be as an attacking midfielder under Arteta. That position, of course, is usually occupied by Odegaard.

The Gunners skipper has missed the last five matches following a knee injury. His performances even prior to this latest injury blow over the past two seasons have been hugely disappointing.

Former Manchester United defender Ferdinand has now claimed Odegaard could find himself increasingly on the periphery even after his return to fitness thanks to the teenage wonderkid’s ascension, even suggesting he could be sold to make way.

The pundit said on Rio Ferdinand Presents : "You know Odegaard might not get a game now. Seriously, your captain might be gone. You’ve got Dowman who can play his position, Eberecchi Eze can play his position. Bukayo Saka can play his position and go in there and go central. It’s mad."
