🔥 Anthony Gordon matches Magpies icon as run of form presses on

Newcastle United have a chance to have a say in the race for the Champions League places amid their capital outing at Stamford Bridge against Chelsea .

Off the pace and still sitting outside of the top five, Eddie Howe's troops may be primed for a late run, with Anthony Gordon continuing his recent hot form to give the visitors a first-half lead.

The England international, who has been immense for Newcastle in Europe this season, beat Robert Sánchez in the 18th minute with a low finish at the near-post with what was one of just two chances the visitors managed to conjure up.

But with that effort, Gordon pulled level with a name from yesteryear; Laurent Robert.

The former Newcastle cult hero, who previously patrolled the left flank at St. James' Park during some iconic seasons in the northeast, managed 22 goals during his spell with the club, a number Gordon has now equalled and looks sure to surpass.

And with the 2026 World Cup just a handful of months over the horizon, there could not be a better time for the former Everton man to make his mark.
